#ARC #Review: For His Eyes Only by Lexi Blake
A night he can’t forget
Five years ago, Nick Markovic found himself consumed by his quest for vengeance. The one time he managed to find peace was in the arms of Hayley Dalton. Being with her was like bathing in sunlight, and he ached to feel that again, but he couldn’t. He gave his oath to Hayley’s cousin Desiree, his partner at McKay-Taggart and Knight, that he’d never let his darkness infect Hayley’s innocent world.
A spark she can’t put out
It was years before that Hayley offered everything she had to Nick. After that one amazing night, all she wanted was to be his forever. Unfortunately, Nick’s reaction was to walk away from her and never look back. The warm and caring man she’d discovered was gone, and after Des’s death, he’d only grown colder. But when Hayley finds herself in mortal danger, she’s forced to seek protection from the man who broke her heart.
A flame that threatens to consume them both
Haunted by the women he failed, Nick can’t allow himself to grow close to Hayley again. Running to stay ahead of the powerful forces that endanger their lives, they travel from the lush Garden in London to the glittering lights of Rio. As the threat against her becomes clearer, he realizes that to keep her safe he must confront the demons from his past, even if it costs him a future with the woman he loves.

OMG!! I can't even say anything about Hayley and Nick right now because I'm freaking out over that teaser for Brody and Stephanie's story!!! WHAT?!?! LOL I need their story ASAP. ASAP I tell you!!!
But I digress. Let's talk about Hayley and Nick!
For His Eyes Only by Lexi Blake is a complex second chance romance. When I first started reading the story, I was a little on edge. I was nervous. I kept wondering, "Is Nick and Hayley's story going to be as good as the previous books in the series?" The character Desiree appeared to be an obstacle that I as a reader may not have been able to overcome.
I had skimmed other early reviews that mentioned Des 's ghost was a relationship hang-up for way too long, and I'm just not okay with that type of thing. BUT it's really not bad at all. Every time Des was mentioned, it had a purpose, and it never caused me to want to throw my e-reader across the room. So yeah...just wanted to get that out there. On to the good stuff!!
Nick. My big, bad Russian man. He's a gentle soul. He's so different from the other heroes that Lexi Blake has written. Yes, all of the big bad men are sweet with their partners, but Nick is on an entirely different level than them. His life has been absolute sh*t up until the moment he met Hayley, and yeah he did some f**ked up things, but he never lost his kind, gentle, and loving soul. But don't worry ladies!! He's sexy, too, and the sex is HOT.
Hayley!! Lexi Blake took her on a fantastic journey. I admire Hayley. She's suffered at the hands of her father, Des, and even Nick. But she always just keeps on trucking--even after her house blows up, and she's forced to run to the one man who broke her heart! Yes, she's gun-shy and a bit meek in the beginning, but watching her transform into the strong woman that Lexi Blake so frequently writes was truly a great experience! I laughed-out-loud any time she put Nick in his place, and I laughed even harder when Ezra Fain was involved!! (WHEN IS EZRA'S STORY COMING?!!?!)
I am SO HAPPY that Nick and Hayley got their second chance romance because they're PERFECT together. And I am so happy that the gang (a.k.a. Ian Taggert and friends) were there to make it such a fun ride! I can't wait to see more of them, and again...I NEED BRODY AND STEPHANIE'S STORY ASAP.
