#ARC #Review: True-Blue Cowboy Christmas by Nicole Helm
About True-Blue Cowboy Christmas: Thack Lane has his hands full. For the past seven years, he's been struggling to move on from his wife's tragic death and raise a daughter all by his lonesome. He doesn't have time for himself, much less a cheerful new neighbor with a smile that can light up the ranch.
Christmas spirit? Bah, humbug.
With Christmas right around the corner, Summer Shaw is searching for somewhere to belong. When her neighbor's young daughter takes a shine to her, she is thrilled. But Thack is something else altogether. He's got walls around his heart that no amount of holiday wishes can scale. Yet as joy comes creeping back to the lonely homestead, Summer and Thack may just find their happily ever after before the last of the Christmas miracles are through...
Adorable little girl? Check! Well-meaning single dad? Check! Christmas obsessed heroine? Check! A romance that will leave you all warm and fuzzy? Check! I LOVED True-Blue Cowboy Christmas by Nicole Helm!
I'm a sucker for adorable little kids helping adults find love, and let me tell you, seven-year-old Kate was absolutely adorable! She's a little spitfire searching for faeries and adventure, which is how she meets Summer. Summer looks an awful lot like the faerie queen from one of her books, and Kate is really hurting for some fun and female company. Her overprotective but loving father, Thack, keeps her home-bound out of fear, so when Kate runs off and into Summer in the middle of the woods surrounding the family ranch, Thack flips the freak out. You know, stranger danger and all that...Thack is actually pretty rude and closed off when it comes to Summer, but lucky for us, Thack's dad is having none of it! Grandpa is playing matchmaker. He offers Summer a job on the ranch, which forces Thack and Summer to be in close proximity at all times. Really, Grandpa just wants Thack to be happy and to do something for himself for once, which is what I, the reader, wanted as well. And because of Summer's rough past with an abusive mother, she needs Thack and Kate as much as they need her. So Grandpa's scheming is a win-win for everyone.
The chemistry between Thack and Summer is intense. What starts as a slow burn romance turns into an explosive and passionate love story that I couldn't get enough of. Even more so, I couldn't enough of Thack, Summer, and Kate as a family unit. The bond between Kate and Summer is special and beautiful. I loved that Kate felt she could talk to and trust Summer when it came to kids bullying her at school. The fact that Kate wanted to protect her dad from feeling sad about what the other kids said broke my heart. She's such a sweet little girl. I think this situation was a true turning point for Thack and Summer's relationship, too. They had to trust in each other, to do what was best for Kate. Soon, Thack is welcoming Summer into his home, his family, and his heart.
My heart started to melt when Summer's father finally spoke up; my heart continued to melt when Thack turned into a fierce, alpha, cowboy man willing to do anything to protect the woman he loves (because there is totally an unexpected suspense aspect to this story); and my heart finished melting when everyone was able to let go of the past and truly enjoy what holidays are all about-being with the ones you love.
Full of heart, heat, and holiday spirit, True-Blue Cowboy Christmas is an emotional read you don't want to miss!
Note: This is the third book in the Big Sky Cowboys series, but can easily be read as a standalone (as evidenced by the fact that I have not yet read the first two books in the series and had no trouble following the story).
